Umar Kremlev, the Russian president of the International Boxing Association and a self-described friend of Vladimir Putin, has been revealed as the financier behind lavish post-wedding celebrations for Donald Trump Jr and Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas. The disclosure, confirmed by the Trumps themselves after ProPublica's reporting, has drawn scrutiny given Kremlev received Russia's Order of Friendship from Putin at the Kremlin in April, and given Russia's ongoing war in Ukraine and President Trump's unfulfilled pledge to broker peace.

Kremlev, 43, reportedly paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to rent a private island and stage a fireworks display for the three-day party following the couple's family-only wedding ceremony in Palm Beach, Florida. The friendship between Kremlev and Trump Jr, 48, dates back at least to September 2025, when the pair appeared together at an IBA forum in Istanbul, publicly praising each other's commitment to "fairness" in sport. Critics have also noted that Kremlev was in China just days before joining the Trumps in the Bahamas, at the same time as Putin's state visit there, though Kremlev denies being part of the official delegation.
