Trump claims Iran strikes protected Britain from nuclear threat

Daily Mail · 1 hour ago

Donald Trump has claimed his strikes on Iran "saved" Britain from a nuclear attack, while renewing criticism of the UK for not joining the military action and warning that the country is nearing a "tipping point" over immigration. In a GB News interview, Trump argued that Iran would have been more likely to use a nuclear weapon against Europe than the US, given the missile capability involved, and framed the strikes as protecting Britain. He also revived his feud with London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan, calling him a "nasty guy" and a "very bad mayor", claiming immigration had created "no go" zones in the capital and warning the UK risked losing "your country" without tighter border controls.

The remarks come amid continued tension between Washington and Tehran over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route through which around a fifth of global oil and gas supplies pass, disruption to which has pushed up petrol prices worldwide. Trump also criticised former prime minister Sir Keir Starmer for the UK's reluctance to join the offensive and for declining to send the Navy to help reopen the strait, branding him "no Churchill", while ministers denied his claim that Britain had offered an aircraft carrier too late to help. Separately, Trump hinted the US could withdraw support for Britain over the Falkland Islands after Argentine President Javier Milei renewed a territorial claim, a further sign of friction alongside his warnings that the UK faces "disaster" unless it changes course on immigration and energy policy.
