DoorDash has secured FAA Part 135 air carrier certification, granting it federal authorisation to operate a commercial drone delivery service in the United States. The approval launches DoorDash Air, the company's in-house drone delivery programme, marking a significant expansion beyond its traditional courier-based model and signalling the firm's move into aviation.

Despite the certification, DoorDash drones will not be appearing over customers' homes imminently, as the company still requires further operational approvals before flights can begin. DoorDash has not yet announced which markets will get the service first, nor has it set a firm launch date for its custom-built aircraft, which are intended to deliver eligible food and other orders.
