Dortmund agree loan move for Arsenal’s Nwaneri

BBC Sport · 6 hours ago

Borussia Dortmund have agreed a deal with Arsenal to sign 19-year-old forward Ethan Nwaneri on a season-long loan, with the move expected to be completed before the Bundesliga transfer deadline. Dortmund's interest was sparked by the need to replace new signing Giannis Konstantelias, who suffered a significant knee injury during Saturday's 2-0 win over Hamburg. The transfer matters because it gives the highly rated Arsenal academy graduate regular first-team football, something he was unlikely to get at Emirates Stadium this season.

Nwaneri, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, is due to travel to Germany for a medical to finalise the switch. Dortmund had previously tried to sign him last summer, while Arsenal have made clear they do not want to sell the player outright and had prioritised loan offers for him amid interest from several Premier League and European clubs. With manager Mikel Arteta boasting strong attacking options, the club felt the teenager would benefit more from increased playing time elsewhere.

  • Nwaneri set for season-long loan at Borussia Dortmund from Arsenal.
  • Move triggered by injury to Dortmund's new signing Konstantelias.
  • Arsenal wanted a loan, not a sale, to boost his game time.
