Double Fine has announced Thank You Bus Driver, its first game since regaining independence from Xbox, a comedy simulation in which players take on the role of a reckless bus driver. Rather than following traffic rules, players are encouraged to drive fast, ignore obstacles and eject unruly passengers, with the ultimate goal of earning appreciation rather than conventional victory. The announcement marks a symbolic fresh start for the studio as it charts its post-Xbox direction.

The game is currently listed as "coming soon" on Steam but is available to pre-order now on both Steam and GOG. Its release follows Xbox's major restructuring, announced by CEO Asha Sharma in July, which affected around 3,200 roles and saw studios including Double Fine and Compulsion Games spun out into independence while retaining ownership of their IP. Double Fine itself cut roughly a quarter of its 90-person staff during the transition, stating the reductions were necessary to reach a sustainable size.
