Dragon Age is “unlikely” to continue at EA, says former lead David Gaider, but if you gave him the keys to the RPG he’d take it somewhere “dark” and “do things that will make people upset”

David Gaider, the writer who created and led the Dragon Age series during his years at BioWare, has said he thinks it is "unlikely" that publisher EA will continue the fantasy RPG franchise. His comments matter because they come from one of the series' key architects and follow the underwhelming commercial reception of the most recent instalment, fuelling wider concern among fans about the future of the long-running franchise.

Gaider, who has since left BioWare, added that if he were handed control of Dragon Age again he would take the series somewhere "dark" and deliberately "do things that will make people upset", suggesting a bolder, more provocative creative direction than the games have recently taken. His remarks reflect both his personal vision for the property and his candid assessment of EA's apparent lack of appetite to invest further in it.
