Suspended New South Wales prosecutor faces 12 further charges over alleged information sales
Vanessa O’Bryan, a suspended New South Wales prosecutor, has been charged with 12 additional offences over allegations that she accepted money for confidential information. The case also involves alleged sexualised relationships with inmates and concerns that confidential files and police investigations were compromised.
O’Bryan now faces 20 charges, including dealing with proceeds of crime involving sums of up to A$15,000 and misconduct by a public official. Prosecutors allege organised crime figure Sargon Namat, who used the encrypted-app codename “50cent”, paid her thousands of dollars for names and addresses; he has separately been charged with conspiracy to murder, kidnapping and detaining people for ransom. Both are due at Downing Centre Local Court later this month, and O’Bryan is on bail with restrictions including no contact with inmates and no use of encrypted communications.
In short
- O’Bryan faces 12 new charges over alleged payments for confidential information.
