Drone strikes warehouse in southern Russia, online retailer Ozon claims
A drone struck an Ozon logistics centre in Russia’s Adygea Republic overnight on 4 November, the retailer said. The company reported a fire but said all employees were evacuated and no injuries had been reported; the incident’s details could not be independently verified.
Ozon said products stored at the damaged warehouse had been removed from its online store and orders it could not fulfil would be cancelled. Regional head Murat Kumpilov had not commented. Ozon and rival Wildberries have been targeted in recent months, and their wider business ecosystems account for about 8.5% of Russia’s GDP.
In short
- Ozon reported a drone strike on its Adygea logistics centre.
- The company said staff were evacuated and no one was injured.
- Unfulfillable orders will be cancelled; the attack remains unverified.
Explained simply
Ozon is one of Russia’s largest online retailers. It sells goods through its website and app, then stores and sends many orders through a network of logistics centres and warehouses.
The Adygea Republic is in southern Russia, and regional head Murat Kumpilov is its senior local official. Ozon and its rival Wildberries are part of a large retail and delivery sector that supports businesses and jobs across Russia.
Damage to a warehouse can disrupt deliveries and affect both workers and customers, even if no one is injured. The two retailers’ wider business ecosystems are estimated to account for about 8.5% of Russia’s economy.
