Drug trafficking suspect bites CNB officer’s thigh during arrest
A 64-year-old Singaporean was arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking after a Central Narcotics Bureau operation near Marsiling Road on Tuesday. During the arrest, he bit one officer’s thigh through his jeans and spat on two others, prompting medical assessments; the case also raises potential charges over his actions towards the officers.
The bureau seized drugs valued at more than S$55,000, including over 1.5kg of cannabis, 166g of Ice and 25g of ecstasy tablets, along with S$356 and drug paraphernalia. It said the cannabis and Ice could supply 320 users for a week. Investigations into suspected drug activity continue, while police are also investigating alleged offences of causing hurt and using criminal force to deter public servants; trafficking more than 500g of cannabis can carry the mandatory death penalty in Singapore.
In short
- A 64-year-old suspect bit one officer and spat on two others during arrest.
- CNB seized drugs worth more than S$55,000 near Marsiling Road.
- Police are investigating alleged offences against the officers.
Explained simply
Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) investigates drug offences and carries out arrests. Marsiling is a residential area in northern Singapore, near the border with Malaysia.
Singapore’s drug laws set severe penalties for trafficking, with the amount and type of drug affecting the possible sentence. Separate offences can apply when someone is accused of hurting or using force against public servants such as police officers or CNB staff. These laws matter because a single arrest may lead to investigations under both drug and assault-related offences.
