Dungeon Crawler Carl Graphic Novel Vol. 1 Review

IGN · 7 hours ago

IGN has reviewed the first graphic novel adaptation of Matt Dinniman's popular LitRPG series Dungeon Crawler Carl, produced by Laurel Pursuit Studios. The reviewer, a long-time fan of the books and audiobooks, was pleasantly surprised that the adaptation feels additive rather than redundant, praising its manga-inspired art style and its handling of the source material's in-world game system messages, which are a hallmark of the LitRPG genre.

The volume adapts the first 13 chapters of the ongoing Webtoon series, roughly a third of the original novel, and ends at a satisfying narrative high point rather than an abrupt cliffhanger. The reviewer noted minor gripes, such as occasionally inconsistent facial expressions for the protagonist Carl, but overall found the visual depiction of the world's creatures and the integration of system pop-ups impressively seamless. Readers can continue the story for free on Webtoon or wait for the paperback Volume 2, due out on 6 October.
