Dwayne Johnson has responded to poor reviews of Disney’s live-action Moana remake by saying criticism is part of working in entertainment. He emphasised that the film’s Polynesian representation and its value to children and communities mattered more to him than opening-weekend reaction, despite the remake struggling critically and commercially.

The film holds 31% from critics and 88% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, while IGN gave it 6/10. It opened with $95 million worldwide and had reached $261 million after four weeks, against a reported $250 million production budget; Disney nevertheless continues developing other live-action remakes, including Tangled.
