Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is stepping into country and soul music, co-writing and recording a song called "Your Dad" with American Idol winner Iam Tongi. The track appears on Moana: Voices Across the Ocean, a compilation album accompanying the recent live-action Moana film, which Johnson produced alongside his wife, Lauren Hashian.

Johnson said fellow producers encouraged him to sing on the album, prompting him to approach Tongi, who sent him a song originally written for his own future children and late father. Johnson, who had a complicated relationship with his own father, reworked the lyrics as a tribute to his daughters. He credits early influences including Sam Cooke, George Jones and Merle Haggard, and says Willie Nelson once gave him a rare Martin guitar as a birthday present. Johnson says he is now "exploring" a wider music career blending old-school soul with traditional country.
