Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has released a video for "Your Dad," a new song he co-wrote with Iam Tongi, the Hawaiian singer who won American Idol in 2023. The track features on the newly released album Moana: Voices Across the Ocean, a companion record to the recent live-action Moana film, and marks Johnson's most personal musical project to date, coming after years of occasional singing appearances and his breakout vocal turn as Maui in 2016's animated Moana.

Johnson executive-produced the album alongside his wife, Lauren Hashian, together with Tiana Nonosina Liufau and Kayla Fa'amaligi, who also choreographed the film and advised on cultural accuracy. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson discussed his teenage ambitions of becoming a country star, early musical influences including Sam Cooke, Elvis, Willie Nelson and George Jones, and his limited prior songwriting experience, including a 2020 collaboration with Tech N9ne on "Face Off." He said he now wants to "go and write and sing and explore the things that I love," signalling a more serious pursuit of a music career.
