Techland scraps last-gen console versions of Dying Light: The Beast
Techland has cancelled the planned PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Dying Light: The Beast, confirming that the survival horror title will remain exclusive to current-generation platforms. The decision reflects a broader industry shift away from supporting older hardware, as developers increasingly focus on the processing power needed for modern open-world games with advanced visuals and physics.
The studio said the game's open world, graphics and combat systems rely on hardware capabilities that last-generation consoles cannot handle. Dying Light: The Beast launched on 18 September 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X and PC, having originally been conceived as an expansion for 2022's Dying Light 2: Stay Human, which did release on older consoles. The move mirrors a similar decision from Call of Duty, whose upcoming Modern Warfare 4 will skip last-gen systems entirely, suggesting the transition to newer consoles is finally accelerating nearly six years into the current generation.
