Trump compared the two women after Collins accepted an award for her coverage of his administration, dismissing the award as "fake" before pivoting to jibes about Mulvaney's 2023 Bud Light advertisement, an incident that has continued to attract political commentary years later.

Trump told the dinner that Mulvaney had "cost Bud Light $35 billion in market cap" and called the advertisement "the worst commercial ever made," adding that he would not want to hire her. Collins responded on Instagram with a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt about not allowing others to make you feel inferior, while Trump doubled down on Sunday by sharing an edited image placing Collins's face on Mulvaney's body from the original advert. Mulvaney later posted a near four-minute video noting Trump had mentioned her four times during the speech, in which she congratulated Collins and addressed the renewed attention on the years-old campaign.
