EA Sports FC 27 gets a PEGI 16 rating in Europe because of loot boxes

The PEGI ratings board has assigned EA Sports FC 27 a 16 rating in Europe, citing its in-game purchases. The decision marks a change from previous entries, which were generally rated suitable for younger players, and reflects growing scrutiny of paid random-reward mechanics in games.

The rating is based on FC 27’s Ultimate Team mode, where players can buy packs containing random items, including player cards. The article identifies these as loot boxes; it provides no further details about the rating decision or the game’s release.
