Morgan disputes the account, calling the book’s allegations fabricated and threatening legal action against Spencer and publisher Penguin.

The disputed passage linked Morgan to the publication of intrusive photographs of Diana exercising in 1993, but Morgan was working for *The Sun* then and did not become editor of the *Daily Mirror* until 1995. Spencer acknowledged that his assumption about Morgan’s responsibility was wrong, although he stood by his description of their conversation; Morgan has demanded that the claims be removed and compensation donated to the King’s Trust.
