Ed Harris Returning To ‘Dutton Ranch’ For Season 2 After Character Arc Frustrations & Showrunner Change

Deadline · 3 hours ago

Ed Harris will return for a second season of Paramount+'s Yellowstone spin-off "Dutton Ranch", having reportedly considered quitting during filming of the first series after feeling his character, Everett McKinney, was sidelined. The actor told Variety he had been assured before signing on that Everett would be one of four central figures, but felt "underused and inconsequential" once production got underway, prompting him to raise concerns with producers.

Sources say the recent departure of Season 1 showrunner Chad Feehan, replaced by "S.W.A.T." creator Benjamin Cavell shortly before the premiere, was driven largely by dissatisfaction over how Everett's storyline was handled, with Harris said to have had input on choosing his successor. Harris, who has a two-year deal with an option for a third, has already been confirmed for Season 2, which begins production on 15 January, with his character expected to feature more prominently and the actor kept informed as scripts are written.
