Ed O’Brien on Radiohead attracting younger fans and why they can’t play more than 20 shows per year
Ed O’Brien says Radiohead’s growing younger audience and the emotional intensity of their concerts mean the band is unlikely to play more than 20 shows a year. He said the group wants to give everything to each performance rather than risk becoming fatigued or routine, particularly as its members are no longer “spring chickens”.
Radiohead returned to live performance in 2025 for 20 arena shows across five European cities, including four nights at London’s O2, their first dates together since 2018. O’Brien said streaming data shows the band’s largest demographic is aged 16 to 24, while plans for touring from 2027 involve one continent and around 20 shows annually; he cautioned fans to treat the exact limit “with a pinch of salt”. The band has not discussed making another album, he added.
- Radiohead aim to protect the intensity of each live show.
- Their largest streaming audience is aged 16 to 24.
- Future tours may be limited to about 20 concerts yearly.
