Edgar Wright says ‘Spaced’ Blu-Ray edition is “not authorised”
Edgar Wright has said a planned Blu-ray release of *Spaced* was not authorised by anyone involved in making the series. He said he learnt about the edition through a fan’s post on X and was disheartened that it had been prepared without the creators’ involvement.
The two-series Channel 4 sitcom, created by and starring Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, is being marketed as a 4K Blu-ray for release on 27 February 2027. Its restoration reportedly uses traditional and proprietary tools, including algorithmic corrections and frame-by-frame manual work; Pegg and Stevenson had not commented at the time of the article.
In short
- Wright says the planned release was not authorised by the show’s makers.
- He says he had pushed for a Blu-ray edition for years.
- The 4K set is scheduled for 27 February 2027.
Explained simply
Spaced is a British sitcom that ran for two series on Channel 4 in 1999 and 2001. It follows two aspiring artists, played by Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, who pretend to be a couple so they can share a flat in London.
Pegg and Stevenson created the series, and Edgar Wright directed it. The show is known for its fast editing and visual references to films and popular culture, which helped establish the careers of its creators.
A Blu-ray edition is a home-video release, and a 4K edition is presented at a higher picture resolution than standard Blu-ray. Questions about who authorised a release matter because the series’ creators and director may have a say in how their work is restored and presented.
