Edko Films Picks Up World Rights To Yeung Leung Cheun’s Toronto Discovery Title ‘We Are Born Good’
Hong Kong-based Edko Films has acquired worldwide rights to *We Are Born Good*, the feature directing debut of local filmmaker Yeung Leung Cheun. The film has been selected for the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival, marking a notable showcase for a first-time director and giving Edko a strong new title to sell internationally.
Starring Yeung Wai Lun and Golden Horse best actress winner Chung Suet Ying, the film draws inspiration from a viral CCTV clip in which a minor scuffle between two workers in a Hong Kong market spiralled into wider chaos, and follows two people caught up in an escalating cycle of revenge. Yeung, previously known as a screenwriter and short-film director, said the film explores how people living under constant urban pressure can be tipped into disorder by the smallest provocation. It is produced by veteran Hong Kong producer Patricia Cheng, whose past credits include several Sylvia Chang films, through Good Night Production, with backing from the Hong Kong Film Development Fund.
