Former Svalbard vocalist Serena Cherry has announced a second Noctule solo album, ‘Extinguish Thy Flame’, inspired by the video game ‘Elden Ring’. Due for release on 25 September, the black metal record follows her 2020 lockdown-era debut ‘Wretched Abyss’, which drew on ‘Skyrim’, and reflects Cherry’s view that extreme metal suits the game’s unforgiving atmosphere.

The album’s lead single, ‘Lord Of Blood’, concerns the horned demigod Mogh, while the new track ‘Goddess Of Rot’ focuses on Malenia and her efforts to protect her brother Miquella while succumbing to Scarlet Rot. Cherry said she connected with Malenia’s tragic story and wanted the song to convey both her abandonment and destructive power. Svalbard, which formed in 2011 and released four albums, announced last year that it would split up.
