Two men, Samuel Moffett and Callum Walters, have been jailed after deliberately setting fire to the Sheffield home of a 78-year-old woman while she was inside, in an attack South Yorkshire Police described as "horrific". The pair had announced their plans online beforehand; Moffett walked to the property on Oxford Street and used petrol to start the blaze while Walters waited nearby in a car. The victim was hospitalised for smoke inhalation and her home was severely damaged, though she survived the attack.

Moffett, 37, was convicted of arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered, while Walters, 32, who organised the attack, was found guilty of arson with intent to endanger life. Both denied involvement despite CCTV footage and phone evidence, forcing the victim through a trial at Sheffield Crown Court before a jury convicted them on 17 June 2026. On 10 September 2026, Walters was sentenced to 12 years in prison with an extended three-year licence period, and Moffett received eight years with the same licence extension.
