Electronic music has become the fastest-growing genre in the United States this year, according to a new mid-year report from music analytics firm Luminate. The finding highlights a broader shift in American listening habits, with artists such as Disco Lines and John Summit driving renewed interest in dance music, alongside a revival in songs originally released between 2015 and 2017. Despite this growth, R&B and hip-hop remain the most consumed genres overall, together accounting for around a quarter of all songs streamed online.

The report also points to a marked rise in Latin music, with casual listenership reaching 54 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, boosted by artists including Shakira, Peso Pluma, Karol G and Bad Bunny, who headlined the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. Spanish-language tracks now make up roughly one in ten US streams, while English-language streaming has fallen to a historic low of 87.1 per cent. Luminate also noted overall streaming grew 4.8 per cent year-on-year, UK artists' share of the US market rose to 7.8 per cent, and separate figures showed 16.3 million CDs sold in the US in the first half of 2026, alongside 21.8 million vinyl albums.
