Elmo Is Going as Meryl Streep’s Evil Fashion Editor Miranda Priestly for Halloween This Year

Variety ·

Elmo will dress as Miranda Priestly, Meryl Streep’s formidable fashion editor from “The Devil Wears Prada”, for Halloween 2026. A Sesame Street video shows him delivering the character’s dry remarks, creating a playful crossover that draws on jokes likely to appeal more to adult viewers than preschool fans.

In the clip, Elmo quips about a pumpkin being groundbreaking for autumn and tells Cookie Monster his blue fur is not cerulean, “but it works”. Elmo has previously appeared in Halloween segments as a spaceman, pirate and witch, and is also a popular costume choice. Streep and co-stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci reprised their roles in this year’s sequel; the original film was based on Lauren Weisberger’s novel, whose Miranda character was modelled on Anna Wintour.
