Elon Musk has said his AI platform Grok Imagine will produce a "historically accurate" full-length film of Homer's Odyssey by the end of the year, sharing a three-minute AI-generated clip of Odysseus and the nymph Calypso as a preview. The announcement extends his sustained attack on Christopher Nolan's live-action Odyssey, which he has used to stoke a culture-war row over its casting despite the film earning near-universal critical acclaim and strong box office takings since its Friday release.

Musk had previously amplified abusive posts targeting Nolan's casting of Black actor Lupita Nyong'o as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra and trans actor Elliot Page as Sinon, accusing Nolan of chasing awards and losing his "integrity". Nolan's film, starring Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway, took $264m (£196m) globally in its opening weekend and holds a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Nyong'o has said the cast is "representative of the world" and that she won't waste time defending it, while Nolan dismissed the backlash as inevitable and argued AI is "nonsense" as a replacement for human creativity, calling it a technology "the public has so thoroughly rejected".
