Elon Musk's X Corp and SpaceXAI have moved to dismiss their antitrust lawsuit against Apple, according to a court filing in a federal court in Texas. The original complaint, filed last year, accused Apple of favouring OpenAI's ChatGPT within Apple Intelligence and suppressing rival apps such as Grok and X on the App Store, allegedly to protect monopolistic market positions. It is not yet clear why the case is being dropped or whether a settlement has been reached; Engadget has asked Apple for comment.

The lawsuit had claimed Apple's exclusive tie-up with OpenAI gave it no incentive to promote competing apps more prominently, though other OpenAI rivals such as DeepSeek and Perplexity did reach the top of App Store charts despite the partnership. OpenAI, also named in the original suit, remains a target, with Musk's companies saying they will continue pursuing claims against it; only the case against Apple is being dismissed. SpaceXAI separately faces a distinct lawsuit and a California investigation into allegations that Grok has been used to generate child sexual abuse material and non-consensual deepfake images, prompting Governor Gavin Newsom to call for an inquiry.
