Developer Hello Games has continued updating No Man's Sky since its rocky 2016 launch, and the trial gives newcomers a chance to sample the space survival adventure before deciding whether to buy, while progress carries over as a free upgrade for anyone who already owns it on Switch platforms.

Nintendo Life's review of the Switch 2 version praised it as a full, uncompromised port with no technical cuts, further enhanced by the Beacon update's base-building depth. Hello Games founder Sean Murray recently teased further "big things" for the game, including an upcoming 'Cosmos' update, as part of the ongoing anniversary celebrations.
