Fire crews tackle grassland blaze near Wincobank in Sheffield

A grassland fire broke out in a Sheffield neighbourhood green space near Wensley Street, close to Wincobank, on the evening of 22 July, prompting a significant response from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service. Eyewitnesses reported flames spreading rapidly across the open ground, and around half a dozen fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze.
Crews used water supplies to bring the fire under control while working to stop it spreading to nearby trees. Local councillor Mustafa Ahmed thanked the fire service publicly for its swift response and effective handling of the incident.
