Variety · 2 hours ago

Netflix has optioned Jean-Baptiste Del Amo’s horror novel ‘La Nuit ravagée’ and hired Jacques Audiard to develop a French-language film adaptation. The project reunites Audiard with Netflix after the awards success of ‘Emilia Pérez’, while marking his first move into horror and potentially bringing his socially grounded style to the genre.

Set in a fictional Toulouse suburb in the early 1990s, the story follows teenagers who enter an abandoned house after a friend dies and find that it exploits their fears, desires and traumas. Published by Gallimard in 2025, the novel has been praised for combining 1980s-90s horror influences, particularly Stephen King, with themes including racism, homophobia, domestic violence and adolescent anxiety; Netflix did not comment.

  • Netflix is developing Audiard’s first horror film.
  • It adapts Jean-Baptiste Del Amo’s ‘La Nuit ravagée’.
