England midfielder Henderson joins Chelsea

BBC Sport ·

England midfielder Jordan Henderson has joined Chelsea on a two-year deal as a free agent, following the mutual termination of his contract with Brentford. The move brings the 36-year-old to Stamford Bridge under new manager Xabi Alonso, who has overseen a busy summer of recruitment as the club looks to rebuild after finishing 10th in the Premier League last season and missing out on European football.

Henderson, who captained Liverpool to the 2019-20 Premier League title and won multiple major trophies including the Champions League, returned to the top flight with Brentford last summer after spells at Al-Ettifaq and Ajax, making 32 league appearances in 2025-26. He is the tenth player to join Chelsea this summer, following signings such as Morgan Rogers (£117m from Aston Villa), Maxence Lacroix (£52m from Crystal Palace) and Danny Welbeck (£5m from Brighton), while Trevoh Chalobah has departed for Como in a deal worth over £30m.
