England opener Gay has shoulder injury scare

BBC Sport · 17 hours ago

England opener Emilio Gay retired hurt after experiencing pain in his right shoulder while batting for Durham against Middlesex in the One-Day Cup. The injury is a concern because Gay has been selected in England’s expanded squad for the first two Tests against Pakistan later this month.

The 26-year-old left the field on eight after receiving treatment, having felt discomfort before playing an on-drive off Toby Roland-Jones. Durham will assess him over the weekend; Gay has played five One-Day Cup matches after going without a contract in The Hundred, and the first Test against Pakistan starts at Headingley on 19 August.
