Erykah Badu and The Alchemist Announce Collaborative Album, Share “Witch Doctor”: Stream
Erykah Badu and producer The Alchemist have announced a collaborative album, due for release on 28 August, alongside its first single, “Witch Doctor”. The project brings together Badu’s soulful songwriting and The Alchemist’s hip-hop production, and will be supported by a North American tour with De La Soul this autumn.
The as-yet-untitled album was recorded in Dallas and Los Angeles over 18 months after the pair connected through Badu’s interest in rapping over one of The Alchemist’s beats. Its sound is said to span soul, blues, funk, rock, jazz and underground hip-hop; “Witch Doctor”, which runs for nearly six-and-a-half minutes, uses layered percussion and references fictional witches including Hermione, Elphaba and Sabrina.
