Ethan Miller Expanded The Odyssey Cult Into A Psych Supergroup For New Album Vol. 3

Stereogum · 3 hours ago

Musician Ethan Miller (Comets On Fire, Howlin Rain, Heron Oblivion) has relaunched his project The Odyssey Cult as a full band, drafting an impressive roster of underground rock musicians for the new album Vol. 3. Where the project's first two instalments, both from 2017, were solo efforts by Miller, this return nearly a decade later transforms it into a genuine psychedelic supergroup, broadening the sound and raising the project's profile within the rock underground.

The new lineup includes Comets On Fire bandmate Ben Flashman on bass and Carlton Melton's Anthony Taibi on keys, with the trio building the album's foundations together before former Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley, saxophonist Zoh Amba, and additional contributors Brigid Dawson (Osees), Paula Frazer (Tarnation) and Inna Showalter (Magic Fig) joined in. The resulting record is described as raw yet grand and melodic yet noisy, offering a familiar but exploratory take on psychedelic rock rather than reinventing the genre. Vol. 3 is out now via Silver Current.
