European top-flight clubs that missed last year’s Club World Cup are set to receive half of its $250m (£185m) solidarity fund, under a proposed agreement between Fifa and European Football Clubs (EFC). The deal would end a lengthy dispute over how the money should be shared and provide support to clubs that did not benefit from the tournament’s substantial prize pot.

The European share of $125m would be divided among eligible clubs based on how many seasons they played in a top division from 2021 to 2024, and their performances in Uefa competitions over that period. Payments are expected to vary widely; Liverpool, as 2022 Champions League runners-up, could receive a larger amount. EFC is likely to confirm the agreement after its Copenhagen assembly, with formal approval expected from the Fifa Council on 15 October; Chelsea, the 2025 winners, have already received £84m in prize money.
