Several people were evacuated from their homes in Sheffield after a garden fire spread to five neighbouring properties in the early hours of Thursday morning. Firefighters were called to Grimsell Crescent in Grenoside at about 04:00 BST, and while some residents were rehomed following the evacuation, no injuries have been reported.

Eight fire crews and a number of specialist vehicles remained at the scene, with a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson urging nearby residents to avoid the area and keep windows and doors shut due to heavy smoke. Road closures were put in place on Grimsell Crescent, Fox Hill Road, Salt Box Lane and Wilcox Road, and crews had begun damping down the fire, with departure expected later on Thursday morning.
