Even Pong is getting a live-action adaptation as Atari and Universal Pictures sign deal to make 10 movies based on some weird classic games

GamesRadar+ · 5 hours ago

Atari has agreed a development deal with Universal Pictures for film adaptations of 10 of its classic game properties, including Pong. The move matters because it extends Hollywood’s pursuit of video-game intellectual property into very early arcade titles, many of which have minimal stories to adapt.

The films are intended to be large-scale action-adventure projects, with Entertainment 360 involved in production. The properties include Asteroids, Adventure, Berzerk, Breakout, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Millipede, Missile Command, Pong and Yars’ Revenge; an original script by Matt Reilly and Carl Hampe is already being developed as the first project.

  • Universal will develop films based on 10 classic Atari games.
  • Pong is among the properties covered by the deal.
  • The projects are planned as action-adventure films.
