The trailer for Zach Cregger’s forthcoming Resident Evil film has attracted widespread criticism on PlayStation’s YouTube channel, much of it unrelated to the film itself. Commenters are using the video to protest Sony’s planned end to new physical PlayStation game releases, illustrating how the dispute has spread across the company’s online channels.

Sony announced on 1 July that it would stop producing new physical games from January 2028, leaving later releases digital-only. Of roughly 1,800 comments on PlayStation’s trailer upload, many referenced physical discs; similar reactions have appeared under other PlayStation posts and even Sony Pictures’ version of the trailer. The film is due in cinemas on 18 September 2026.
