Remco Evenepoel narrowed Tadej Pogacar's overall lead in the Tour de France by winning the stage 16 time trial, a dominant ride that keeps the race alive heading into the final week. The Belgian Olympic champion's win came on Belgium's national day and marked his second consecutive stage victory, following his triumph on Sunday's mountainous stage 15.

Evenepoel completed the 26.1km course along Lake Geneva in 32 minutes 19 seconds, with Pogacar 28 seconds behind, trimming the Slovenian's overall advantage to 4 minutes 32 seconds. Denmark's Mattias Skjelmose finished third, more than a minute back. The result was tempered by injury to Evenepoel's team-mate Florian Lipowitz, who crashed out of contention while lying fifth overall, two days after Jonas Vingegaard's own crash ended his race while second in the standings.
