Everton sign midfielder Norgaard from Arsenal

BBC Sport · 2 hours ago

Everton have signed Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard from Arsenal on a two-year contract, reportedly for around £7m, as manager David Moyes continues to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League season. The 32-year-old had fallen out of favour at Arsenal after joining from Brentford last year, and the deal adds further experience to Everton's midfield following the departures of several senior players.

Norgaard made 20 appearances for Arsenal last season, but only seven in the league, as the club won their first title in 22 years, and he was recently left out of a pre-season friendly squad. He arrives at Everton alongside other summer signings Hayden Hackney (£16.5m from Middlesbrough) and Tyrique George (£18m from Chelsea), with Moyes seeking experienced replacements for the departed Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye, while James Garner is also sidelined after groin surgery. Norgaard, who spent six years and made 196 appearances at Brentford, said he was drawn by Moyes's vision and Everton's recent progress. Everton begin their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday, 22 August.
