The Football Association has charged Everton forward Martin Sherif with allegedly breaching its betting rules by placing bets on football matches. The case matters because players are prohibited from betting on the sport, and Sherif could face disciplinary action if the allegations are upheld.

The 20-year-old is accused of making 61 bets between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026, under FA Rule E1.2, and must respond by Monday 17 August. Sherif has not made a senior appearance for Everton; he spent parts of the past season on loan at Rotherham United and Port Vale, scoring two goals for each club.
