‘Everyone is just going to be thrilled’: Trump promises ‘big, beautiful agreement’ to end war in Ukraine

Donald Trump said the United States was “very close” to settling the war in Ukraine and promised a “big, beautiful agreement” that could involve more than Ukraine, potentially all of Europe. His comments followed a private meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, and suggest any proposed deal could have wider regional implications.

Trump declined to say what he discussed with Dmitriev and clarified that he had met separately only with the Russian representative. The meetings took place after Russian and Ukrainian representatives met with First Lady Melania Trump. Trump offered no terms or details of the proposed agreement, and said “everyone’s going to be thrilled”.
