Everything Is Dissapointing After Pokémon’s Spectacular 30th Anniversary TCG Set
Pokémon’s Delta Reign trading card set has strong artwork, sought-after Pokémon and new gameplay mechanics, but the reviewer found opening it disappointing after the unusually generous 30th Anniversary collection. The article argues that the earlier set may have raised collectors’ expectations so much that a good release can feel underwhelming by comparison.
Delta Reign contains 141 cards, compared with 199 in the 30th Anniversary set and 295 in Ascended Heroes. After opening packs from review boxes and three prerelease events, the reviewer felt that even EX cards were scarce, though they could not establish whether the hit rate was unusually low. They praise the dynamic art and Pokémon selection, and suggest the Rayquaza-themed set may be appreciated more with time.
In short
- Delta Reign feels underwhelming after the 30th Anniversary set.
- It has 141 cards and striking, action-filled artwork.
- The reviewer could not confirm whether its hit rate is unusually low.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
A set can be artistically strong and enjoyable to play while still feeling disappointing to open, especially when a recent anniversary release offered more cards and a more generous experience. The reviewer’s account suggests Delta Reign’s perceived scarcity of EX cards and smaller card count may leave collectors feeling short-changed, even though the sample does not establish that its pull rates are unusually low.
The case against
Expectations shaped by an unusually generous anniversary collection may make a solid release seem weaker by comparison. Delta Reign has praised artwork, sought-after Pokémon and new gameplay mechanics, and its distinct Rayquaza theme may gain appreciation over time; without reliable evidence of unusually poor hit rates, a disappointing opening experience need not define the set’s overall quality.
