Ewan McGregor has urged Disney to bring him back as Obi-Wan Kenobi, saying he is ready to continue playing the Star Wars character but believes the studio is not yet prepared to proceed. He wants to explore the period between the end of the 2022 Disney+ series and the character’s later appearance as portrayed by Alec Guinness, arguing there are further stories to tell.

McGregor first played Obi-Wan in 1999’s The Phantom Menace and returned for two further prequel films before reprising the role after 17 years in the limited Disney+ series. Obi-Wan Kenobi was Disney+’s second most-watched show in the United States in 2022, recording 6.5 billion minutes viewed, although it was presented as a limited series. McGregor said he has roughly 10 years before reaching Guinness’s age when he played the older Obi-Wan.
