A ram named Rambo had to be rescued by firefighters in Somerset after becoming stuck in a concrete pipe while apparently fleeing the attentions of nine ewes. The 97kg animal took refuge in the pipe on Western Farm on Sunday, prompting crews to spend time carefully freeing him using chimney rods, ropes and a sheet slid beneath his body. The incident, while lighthearted, highlights the sometimes unusual call-outs faced by fire services and has become a fundraising opportunity for two charities.

Farm owner Bex Maynard joked that Rambo was taking "a well-earned break from his romantic duties" after being pursued by the amorous flock, and said he seemed remarkably unbothered once freed. She praised the firefighters for their care in extracting him safely, and has since launched a JustGiving page aiming to raise £1,000 each for the Fire Fighters Charity and the Farmers Charity in gratitude for the rescue.
