Ex-KAMELOT Vocalist ROY KHAN Admits He No Longer Sings ‘A Lot Of The Songs’ Live In The Same Key As He Did ‘Back In The Day’
Roy Khan says he now performs many KAMELOT songs in a lower key than when they were recorded, adapting them to changes in his vocal range. Modern equipment lets the band retune guitars and bass without compromising the sound, helping him perform material from the 2005 album *The Black Halo* on his current Latin American tour.
Khan said he can still sing some of the highest parts, though they sound airier and more like falsetto. He is working on his first solo album, tentatively due in 2027, with producer Sascha Paeth and co-producers Caio Kehyayan and Adrienne Cowan; Bill Hudson is also contributing to the songwriting. Khan, now 56, left KAMELOT in 2011 after taking time off to recover from burnout.
- Khan lowers the key of many older songs for live performances.
- Modern tuning technology helps preserve the band’s sound.
- His first solo album is tentatively planned for 2027.
