Ex-NYPD officer charged with murdering beloved jogger, 28, was deemed so psychologically unfit he was thrown out of the Marines
Former New York police officer Sayed Mohassib, 27, has been charged with murdering Katie Suarez, a 28-year-old bank teller who was jogging in Brooklyn. The case has drawn attention to his past, including his expulsion from the Marines for psychological unfitness and his brief service with the NYPD.
Suarez was stabbed on 30 October near Bay 17th Street and Shore Parkway in Bath Beach, and was later declared brain dead. Her family donated her pancreas, liver, kidneys and heart, which reportedly helped save five lives. Prosecutors say her blood was found on the walls of Mohassib’s flat and that he said he had tried to clean it; he faces murder, evidence-tampering and weapon-possession charges and is due back in court on 10 November.
