Jay Weinberg says his new collaborative work has allowed him to explore creative ideas that he could not previously release publicly. Discussing his single “Drown Fountain” with Softcult, the former Slipknot drummer said restrictions on playing with other musicians had been difficult because sharing music is central to his creative process.

“Drown Fountain” began as a song idea in 2013 and is part of a larger body of around 100 demos Weinberg has developed over the years. He selected seven songs for an eclectic album, acting largely as primary songwriter and instrumentalist while inviting guests including Softcult’s Mercedes Arn-Horn and Deafheaven’s George Clarke; he believes outside collaborations help musicians improve and enrich their main work.
