Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been ruled mentally incompetent to stand trial over an attempted murder charge. He is accused of running over William Yates, the 79-year-old father of Turnstile singer Brendan Yates, and has been deemed a danger to himself and others; his competency will be reassessed on 19 January, delaying a trial scheduled for 5 October.

The incident occurred in March and allegedly involved a 2001 Buick LeSabre, leaving William Yates seriously injured. During the hearing, Ebert protested loudly, disputed his attorney’s involvement and alleged legal misconduct before being removed from court. Turnstile, who dismissed Ebert in 2022 after what they described as harmful and threatening behaviour, are continuing their North American tour and are due to appear on Saturday Night Live on 3 October.
