Exclusive deal agreed for matchday parking

Sheffield Wednesday fans will still be able to use a nearby council-run car park on matchdays next season after the club agreed to extend its long-running licensing arrangement with Sheffield City Council. The deal matters because it secures parking access close to Hillsborough for supporters while also guaranteeing income for Hillsborough Park Charity, which helps maintain the park.

Under the agreement, in place since 2009, Wednesday has exclusive use of the main Parkside Road car park on 28 matchdays a year, from four hours before kick-off until 90 minutes after the final whistle. The car park is about a six-minute walk from the ground and is owned by Hillsborough Park Charity, for which the council is sole trustee. Councillors also approved a rise in pay-and-display charges at Hillsborough, Graves and Endcliffe parks from £1 to £1.10 an hour, though one councillor said a 10% increase was high given the cost of living crisis.
